Although the Rolled or Rounded Rim $10 is listed in Judd’s Pattern Book as Judd 1775, it is not strictly a pattern in the same sense as the Wire Edge $10. According to the noted gold authority David Akers, “The Rolled Edge was actually struck in rather large quantities for circulation but they were melted before ever being released to the public. The surviving examples are mostly high quality and were either saved as assay pieces or obtained directly from the Mint prior to the decision to melt the issue.”

Unlike the Wire Edge, most of the surviving examples of the Rolled Rim are in high Mint State grade, with close to half of the survivors above MS 65. Both the Wire Edge and the Rolled Rim $10 Indians show periods before and after the legends on the reverse. They also appear in a higher relief than the strikings released for circulation later in 1907.
