Little is known about the assaying business of W. L. Berry, other than the fact that he operated in Nevada, as evidenced by the only-known bar bearing the inscription "W. L. BERRY, ASSAYER NEVADA." The only-known bar is well produced, with clean lines and clear markings. That leads our experts to believe that Berry was in operation during the 1870s or 1880s. It does not bear the same crude nature as the older ingots.
