A few months ago, Stack’s Bowers Galleries and PCGS announced that Stack’s Bowers Galleries is now the official auctioneer for their popular “Trade and Grade” coin shows. The first auction under this arrangement was held to much excitement in October. The second sale is being held on December 22 and 23, and comprises three sessions, including an always popular “Old Holder” session. In this blog is a walk through of some of the highlights that caught my eye.
Lot 93014. 1804 Draped Bust Half Cent. C-10. Rarity-1. Crosslet 4, Stems to Wreath. MS-65 BN (PCGS). CAC. A richly lustrous brown coin with great accents of iridescent color.
Lot 93030. 1862 Indian Cent. Proof-64 Cameo (PCGS). CAC. Flashy with nice contrast.
Lot 93149. 1917-D Buffalo Nickel. MS-65 (PCGS). CAC. OGH. A beautiful gem with subtle iridescent toning.
Lot 93265. 1825/4/2 Capped Bust Quarter. B-3. Rarity-3. VF-20 (PCGS). Popular overdate in a popular collector grade.
Lot 93293. 1927 Standing Liberty Quarter. MS-66+ FH (PCGS). A borderline Superb example, with just nine graded higher at PCGS.
Lot 94001. 1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar. BB-27, B-5. Rarity-1. Three Leaves. VG-8 (PCGS). A wholesome VG early dollar.
Lot 94008. 1870-CC Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-4. Rarity-7-. EF-45 (NGC). A very rare die pair from the first year of operations at the CC mint.
Lot 94197. 1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-65+ PL (PCGS). CAC. Intensely lustrous and well struck.
Lot 94326. 1893-S Morgan Silver Dollar. EF Details–Cleaned (PCGS). Important key date issue with a lot of “meat.”
Lot 94513. 1881 Trade Dollar. Proof-66 (NGC). A brilliant untoned Gem Proof.
Lot 94584. 1879-CC Liberty Head Half Eagle. Unc Details–Cleaned (PCGS). Scarce issue from a mintage of 17,281.
Lot 94617. MCMVII (1907) Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. High Relief. Flat Rim. AU Details–Tooled (PCGS). An affordable example of the most beautiful U.S. gold coin.
