How Many Bruuns are Enough Bruuns?

Are you buying and collecting coins from the L. E. Bruun Collection, one of the largest and most fabled coin collections in the world? You may be, as we have seen a great surge in bidders since the first auction in September 2024. Having now held ten Bruun auctions (four Showcase Auctions and six Collectors Choice events) we are not even halfway through the collection with much more to come.

There are probably as many ways to collect Bruun coins as there are collectors. Do you want just one Bruun coin? Maybe one in gold, one in silver, and one in copper/bronze? Maybe collect the same for the medals? Or by country, with perhaps one coin each from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Great Britain. Some people collect one piece from each king, and some one from each year – definitely a challenging pursuit.

We each decide how to collect, and we try to keep our purchases within those (often) self-imposed boundaries; try being the operative word – I speak from experience. But that’s okay, it’s supposed to be fun, a break from the norms and conventions of everyday life, an indulgence.

Summer is upon us (here in the Northern Hemisphere) and the next  Bruun sale won’t be until September. That gives us all time to recover and get ready for the Collectors Choice Auctions, we will be rolling out this fall. These will feature more coins (and medals) in each sale, and more high-end coins, i.e. Norwegian Speciedalers, Swedish Ducats, and (in December), Swedish Plate Money. Some coins and medals will be sold in smaller lots, but please do not dismiss them because of that; there are fine examples there, too.

Perhaps you need to trim your collection a bit to buy more? Maybe you are ready to sell some none-Bruun coins to finance the purchase of more coins from the Bruun Collection? We can help with that. The deadline for the October Copenhagen Sale is nearly upon us, but graded coins of the right calibre can still be included The 2025 Zurich Sale and the March 2026 Manhattan Sale proved that selling alongside a Bruun auction can be a very clever move.
