June Baltimore Was a Hot Show!

I just returned from the Baltimore Coin Expo, and as expected, the combination of 97-degree temps and the threat of severe storms throughout much of the week led to somewhat lighter attendance than we typically see in Baltimore. Even so, anyone walking the bourse floor would have been hard-pressed to notice a slowdown in activity.

In fact, the show’s overriding theme was demand. The most common comment I heard—from dealers and collectors alike—was not about finding buyers, but rather finding material to buy. Fresh inventory remains difficult to come by, and competition for quality coins and paper money is intense across nearly every segment of the market.

That strong demand was evident throughout the convention. Dealers were actively seeking inventory, collectors were eager to add new pieces to their collections, and transactions were taking place at a steady pace from the opening bell through the close of each day. Despite lighter foot traffic, the overall energy on the floor was exceptionally strong.

Not surprisingly, interest in our June Showcase Auction was equally robust. Lot viewing was busy throughout the show, with a steady stream of collectors and dealers stopping by to examine the offerings in person. Many of our Marketplace items were also on display and generated significant interest.  When quality material is available, buyers are clearly willing to act decisively.

What continues to impress is the broad-based strength of today’s numismatic market. Whether your focus is rare coins, paper money, world issues, or bullion-related material, demand remains healthy and participation is strong. While fluctuations in gold and silver grab headlines, the collector market continues to be driven by rarity, quality, provenance, and long-term enthusiasm for the hobby.

As we move into the summer convention season and look ahead to the ANA World’s Fair of Money, I expect the search for fresh, quality material will continue to be front and center. For collectors, that means opportunities can disappear quickly. For consignors, it means the market will stay highly receptive to desirable material coming to auction.

As mentioned previously, we are currently accepting consignments for our Summer Global Showcase Auction – for which we are an official auctioneer partner of the ANA World’s Fair of Money. If you’ve been considering selling a collection, individual rarities, or an estate holding, now is an excellent time to explore your options. If you’d like to discuss the best venue for your material or simply learn more about the consignment process, feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]. You are also welcome to contact our consignment team at [email protected]. We’d be happy to review your material, answer your questions, and help guide you through the next steps.
