With our May Collectors Choice Online World Paper Money Auction coming up next week (Session 1 on May 12 and Session 2 on May 13), I would like to highlight some of the rarely encountered notes offered in that sale that stood out to me.
A consecutive pair of 10,000 Francs, the highest denomination in circulation in Belgium before the introduction of the Euro in 2002.
The key denomination of the famed Devil’s Face series, rare in all grades with a total of just 30,000 notes printed. With its solid appearance and good paper quality, this example is ideal for the collector who wants to obtain this type without paying well into five figures for an uncirculated piece,
First released in 1943, this problem-free large-format note is the highest denomination in this series; it has the final date of 1968, for which only 4,300 were printed. A deceptively difficult type that had massive purchasing power at the time of issue.
This large-format high-denomination note features a scene of allegorical figures portraying “Danse Macabre” on the reverse. It is always popular, especially at this grade level. Among the most iconic world notes, it would be a welcome addition to an advanced type collection.
