Strikingly Rare Error Note

We have recently finalized our February Rarities Auction. The lots are now listed online and are available for viewing! From scarce high grade Obsoletes, to high denomination large-size Federal Reserve notes, to rare National Bank notes, we are aiming to have all the currency bases covered. In addition, as Lot #46, we are featuring a very special error note: a Fr. 1960-J 1934d $5/$10 Double Denomination note graded 65PPQ by PCGS Currency.

Double denomination examples, the Kings of Error notes, have become increasingly difficult to locate as the few that survived are tucked away in collections.

The note we will present in our February sale features the 1934D $5 face design on the front with a Green Seal from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Missouri. The signatures are of Georgia Neese Clark, and John Wesley Snyder. The back of the note displays the $10 back design. The note has good centering and nice embossing on original crisp paper. Lot #46 carries an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000 and will certainly be a stand out Error note for any collector of these varieties.

Be on the lookout for more updates on the stunning notes that will complete our Rarities Auction to be held February 10, 2016, at Sotheby’s New York City auction gallery.
