Obverse Design:

The obverse of the coin shows a deer facing the left side of the coin. In a circle around the deer is the text listed above. Centered in ornamentation at the bottom of the coin are III Roman Numerals. A pointing hand is located to the left of the 3 Roman Numerals, pointing to the word VALVE. To the right of the 3 Roman Numerals is a star symbol. A crescent moon is located beneath the Roman Numerals.

Reverse Design:

A broad axe is shown in the center with the blade facing the left side of the coin and the handle faceing the right side of the coin. Text surrounds in a circle and a small beaded boarder is shown on the outermost edge of the coin.

Helpful Tips for Identifying the W-8245, Freidus 3.1-C Variety:

This is the first use of the broad axe reverse design as opposed to the three small crowned hammers. The broad axe blade is adjacent to the inner circle. Later examples of that feature the broad axe set the axe more toward the center of the coin. Although this type was produced in 1737, there is no date on the coin.

The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the Archangel Collection of Colonial Coins and 1792 Coinage, where it realized $28,800.
