The obverse of the coin shows a deer facing the left side of the coin. In a circle around the deer is the text listed above. Centered in ornamentation at the bottom of the coin are III Roman Numerals. A pointing hand is located to the left of the 3 Roman Numerals, pointing to the word VALVE. To the right of the 3 Roman Numerals is a star symbol. A crescent moon is located beneath the Roman Numerals.
A large broad axe is in the center of the coin with text surrounding. The blade of the axe is touches the outer circular border of the coin. This variety is found without a date.
The positioning of the antlers on the obverse is the main diagnostic on this coin. The left antler is underneath the A in AS, while the right antler is located beneath the space between the A and S, although it is slightly closer to the A. On the reverse, the broad axe is placed adjacent to the inner circle border of the coin.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the March 2017 Baltimore Auction, where it realized $21,150.
