1739 Higley Copper

Freidus 3.1-D

W-Unlisted

Estimated Survivors: 1 Known
Obverse Text: VALVE • ME • AS • YOU • PLEASE • III
Reverse Text: J • CUT • MY • WAY • THROUGH • 1739
What to Look For: At the time of the John J. Ford Sales, this was a new variety discovery. We note that most 1739 Higleys display significant weakness at the date on the reverse.

Obverse Design:

The obverse of the coin shows a deer facing the left side of the coin. In a circle around the deer is the text listed above. Centered in ornamentation at the bottom of the coin are III Roman Numerals. A pointing hand is located to the left of the 3 Roman Numerals, pointing to the word VALVE. To the right of the 3 Roman Numerals is a star symbol. A crescent moon is located beneath the Roman Numerals.

Reverse Design:

A large broad axe is in the center of the coin with text surrounding. The blade of the axe is distant from the outer circular border of the coin. The date is located in the lower border.

Helpful Tips for Identifying the W-Unlisted, Freidus 3.1-D Variety:

On the obverse of the coin, the left deer antler is positioned barely to the left of the A in AS. The right antler is underneath the right foot of the A. The reverse of this coin shows the broad axe centered on the coin and distant from the circular outer border. The date is at the bottom.
