At almost all times, there was standing room only in the auction room, and throughout the auction the bidding was extremely competitive. The Poor Richard’s Collection contains historic Franklin imprinted notes as early as 1739, the finest known 1775 Marbled Border 420 Continental Currency note, high grade “Fugio” emblem Continental Notes, and culminates with an extraordinary 1781 United States loan certificate. The loan certificate was part of the foundation of the early American Republic’s financing and was created in Paris by Franklin using special marbled color edged paper.
