Delivering more than 5,700 lots, this sale truly provides something for everyone at all budget levels. The auction offers 14 live and Internet sessions over the course of a week, with sessions to be held in New York City on January 13-15 and in Costa Mesa, California, from January 16 through 20.

Coming on the heels of a record-breaking 2021, the World and Ancient Department at Stacks Bowers Galleries continued to solidify their status as a market leader. The year 2022 saw the firm realize remarkable World and Ancient auction sales that surpassed $108 million, marking the second consecutive year that the $100 million benchmark has been exceeded.

Stacks Bowers Galleries has now sold over $2 million in physical cryptocurrency, propelled by strong results in their November 2022 Cryptocurrency Anniversary Session, which realized nearly $450,000. This special auction featured an unprecedented 101 coins spanning the Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero, and Dogecoin cryptocurrencies.

Stacks Bowers Galleries is honored to have been selected to auction the coin collection of the late T. Boone Pickens, influential businessman and financier. Pickens gained recognition in the 1980s through his impact on the oil industry and eventually earned the nickname Oracle of Oil. He went on to apply his expertise in many other areas of the energy industry, advocating for natural gas, wind power, nuclear power and other alternative energies.

Over $23 million in United States coins and currency was sold in the Stacks Bowers Galleries Winter 2022 Showcase Auction, marking an incredibly successful close to the firms 2022 U.S. Showcase Auction season. Presented was an exciting array of Numismatic Americana, U.S. colonial and federal coinage, and physical Bitcoins and Cryptocurrency, including several significant collections that represented the pinnacles of their respective categories.

Stacks Bowers Galleries was proud to conduct Part II of the Sydney F. Martin Collection in Baltimore at their Winter 2022 Showcase Auction, the official auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo. Martin was a longtime supporter and enthusiastic member of the Colonial Coin Collectors Club (C4), and it was fitting that his sale was also the official auction of that clubs Annual Convention.

At the annual C4 Board of Directors meeting held in Baltimore, Maryland, last week, the C4 Board of Directors unanimously agreed to recognize Christine Karstedts contributions in the area of colonial numismatics by designating her an Honorary Life Member of the Club. Christine has been a regular dues-paying member of C4 for many years. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed by the Club and is rarely awarded. Christine is only the sixth person since 1993 and the first woman to be recognized in this way. She joins past honorees Q. David Bowers, Eric Newman, Kenneth Bressett, Phil Mossman, and Gary Trudgen.

Costa Mesa, CA Stacks Bowers Galleries is proud to present the Cryptocurrency Anniversary Session of their Winter 2022 Showcase Auction, the Official Auction of the Whitman 2022 Baltimore Expo. With live bidding taking place on Friday, November 4, this special stand-alone session marks the one-year anniversary of the firms first ever offering of physical cryptocurrency in November 2021. In that sale, they sold a silver 2013 Lealana 0.1 Bitcoin for $33,600, representing a nearly 500% premium above the face value at the time. Since then, Stacks Bowers Galleries has sold 85 cryptocurrency coins totaling over $1.6 million in prices realized and setting numerous records for the premiums achieved.

Costa Mesa, CA Stacks Bowers Galleries is pleased to announce the offering of Polish rarities from The Anthony J. Taraszka Collection in their January 2023 New York City auction. Prized among European issues are the coins of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and of Poland more broadly. Many of the most notable collections in history have featured Polish rarities: Farouk, Czapski, and Brand, among a litany of others. To this renowned group can be added Anthony J. Taraszka.
