The Stack’s Bowers Galleries ANA U.S. Currency Auction Realizes $5.3 Million

The Stack's Bowers Galleries Official United States Currency Auction at the ANA World's Fair of Money realized an impressive $5,320,620 in total sales from two live auction sessions and one internet only session. In total, the Stack's Bowers Galleries Official ANA Auction that featured coins and paper money from the United States and around the world realized over $30.6 million.

The Stack's Bowers Galleries Official Auction at the ANA World' Fair of Money attracted collectors from all over the world to Rosemont, Illinois for one of the largest numismatic auctions of the year. This event was met with resounding success, realizing over $19.8 million in United States coins sold, and overall sales of $30.6 million for the firm. Headlined by the E. Horatio Morgan, Anthony J. Taraszka, Maurice Snow and ESM collections, the Stack's Bowers Galleries sale included impressive material from every corner of the Red Book and beyond.

Stack’s Bowers Galleries Sets Record for Most Valuable Modern U.S. Coin

The Stack's Bowers Galleries official auction of the 2019 ANA World's Fair of Money set several records for United States coinage earlier this month in Rosemont, Illinois. Among these was lot 5231 of their Rarities Night session, a 1964 Kennedy half dollar produced as part of an unreported Special Mint Set (SMS) and certified SP-68 by PCGS. After intense bidding, it sold for an astounding $156,000, setting a new record for the most valuable non-error modern United States coin ever sold at auction.

Legendary 1894-S Dime Sells for Over $1.3 Million in the Stack’s Bowers Galleries 2019 ANA Auction

Numismatic history was made in the Stack's Bowers Galleries Official Auction at the 2019 ANA World's Fair of Money, where an example of the legendary 1894-S Barber dime sold for over $1.3 million in lot 5178. Certified Branch Mint Proof-63 by PCGS and verified by CAC, this coin is one of just nine confirmed survivors from an original mintage of only 24 pieces.

Taraszka Collection of Early $10 Eagles Earns Over $3.2 Million in the Stack’s Bowers 2019 ANA Auction

A milestone in early American numismatics was realized at the Stack's Bowers Galleries Official Auction at the ANA World's Fair of Money, where the incredible Anthony J. Taraszka Collection of 1795 to 1804 $10 Gold Eagles was sold to a standing-room audience on the evening of Thursday, August 15. The catalog featured 41 coins, comprising every known variety from 1795 through 1804. When the auctioneer's hammer fell on the final lot, the collection had realized over $3.2 million. (All prices include the buyer's premium.)

Stack’s Bowers & Ponterio to Present Chinese Coins from the Famed Charles E. Tanant Collection

Formed during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Charles E. Tanant Collection contained some of the finest preserved Chinese rarities to ever enter the marketplace. While serving as an official in the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs Service, Tanant received many of the pieces in his collection as gifts from colleagues during the late Empire and into the early Republic. Held privately for more than 90 years, a large segment of the Tanant Collection was sold by Champion Auction Hong Kong in 2017 and 2018. Some of the most-select pieces, however, will also be presented in our upcoming Hong Kong auction which will take place from August 19-22, 2019.
